Bio

Dr. Elizabeth Atwood is an assistant professor of journalism at Hood College in Frederick, MD.

She was born on a farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and received her bachelor’s of science degree in journalism from West Virginia University. She received a master’s degree in history from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. in public communications from the University of Maryland.

She began her professional career as a high education and science reporter at the Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Va. She went on to work at The Richmond News Leader covering police and local government. For 22 years, she worked at The Baltimore Sun as an editor and reporter covering topics ranging from local government to development, features and metro news.

She is married and has two sons. She lives with her family in Catonsville, Md.
